General Information

When searching our Burial Records you may sometimes see the term 'Removed from Parish' in the results displayed. This term means that the person has died in a particular Parish, but has then been buried outside of the particular Parish they died in.

Cemeteries

City Road Cemetery was opened in July of 1881 and at that time was called Intake Road Cemetery . I believe that the name was changed when Intake Road became City Road. It is one of the largest Cemeteries in Sheffield and is the head office for all the municipally owned cemeteries. The crematorium was opened in 1907.

We have been granted permission by City Road and LDS to index and are aiming to index the cemetery from 1881 to about 1950.

Generous permission has been granted for the use of the index for St.Michaels Roman Catholic Cemetery on Rivelin Valley Road. It was opened on St.Michael's Day Sept 29, 1862 (served from St. Vincent, Solly Street) and the database is available online. The searchable index includes records up to 2003 and more recent burials are available by request.

The information contained in the Burial Indexes are as follows: surname, forename, if cremated, description, age, place of death, date of burial, grave number, grave site letter, religion, name of Cemetery, area.

I would like to thank all the indexers and checkers for their sterling efforts.

Best regards,

Elaine Pickard
